At 196 kilometers in length, the Shimanto River is the longest river in Shikoku and known as the most pristine river in Japan. There are no dams or blockage throughout the river, and it boasts some of the most beautiful waters in Japan thanks to the rich forests that are the river's source.

To fully enjoy this magnificent river, a wide range of activities are available such as rafting, canoeing, cycling, boarding a sightseeing boat, etc.

Crossing Chinka bashi bridge is a unique thing to do here. It is a simple submersible bridge without any rails and sinks below the water entirely during the times of flood.
As the bridge path is just wide enough for a single car, crossing them to the other side of the river can be a little bit thrilling experience.
