Sample Itinerary (8.5-hour tour)

Start your day at Okurayama Ski Jump Observatory. It is where the 90-meter ski jump competitions of the Winter Olympics 1972 were held. Top of the hill can be accessed via a chair lift for spectacular views of Sapporo. Then, experience various winter sports physically at Sapporo Olympic Museum. Here, enjoy trying ski jump, cross country skiing, speed skate, bobsleigh and more by simulators.

Visit Hokkaido Jingu, the largest shrine in Hokkaido established in 1870. When Meiji emperor started developing Hokkaido, which was once called Ezo, two guardian gods were enshrined here. Though the shrine is located in the city, a sacred atmosphere surrounded by pristine woods can be felt here.

Stroll around Sapporo Central Wholesale Market's outer market. Established in 1959, it plays an important role in distribution fresh food from all over Hokkaido such as marine products, vegetables and fruits.

Ramen
Sapporo is one of the most popular ramen cities in Japan and also the birthplace of miso (soybean paste) ramen. Find your favorite ramen at Sapporo Ramen Kyowakoku where several popular ramen stands are gathered from all over Hokkaido. Not only Sapporo ramen, there are Hakodate ramen (salt taste) and Asahikawa ramen (soy source taste). If you would like to have locally loved Sapporo miso ramen, try Shirakaba Sanso. Its soup is rich and creamy and comes with tasty Chinese roast pork.

Sushi on conveyer belt (Kaiten Zushi)
Sapporo locals love conveyor belt sushi as they are able to enjoy very fresh seafood from all over Hokkaido with the reasonable price. Hokkaido's conveyor belt sushi restaurants proudly offer not only the most popular seafood such as salmon, sea urchin, tuna, salmon egg but also fresh locally-caught fish that cannot be found in Tokyo. Try one of the most popular restaurants loved by Sapporo citizens.

Visit Shiroi-koibito Park, a theme park of Ishiya, local chocolate company which is famous for popular Hokkaido sweets called "Shiroi-koibito" (two thin butter cookies with white chocolate in between). Visitors can observe the cookie production process through windows. Not only the factory, but there are some fun attractions related to chocolate. Also, if you visit there in summer, English-style garden with varieties of rose can be enjoyed. Do not forget to enjoy soft ice cream and other sweets at one of the cafes there!

Located in the heart of Sapporo city is Odori park. It stretches east to west for about 1.5km and divides the city into north and south section. This is a calm oasis for citizens with various kinds of trees and flowers. Odori park is also used for a number of seasonal events such as Lilac Festival in spring, Yosakoi Soran Festival and beer garden in summer, Autumn Festival and Snow Festival. If your travel date overlaps with these events, your guide will be happy to take you there. Also, if you are interested, visit the observation deck of Sapporo TV Tower located on the ground of Odori Park. From the deck, you can enjoy the sweeping view of the park as well as the mountains surrounding Sapporo city and the Japanese Sea in the distance.

Visit Sapporo Clock Tower, a symbol of Sapporo. This is one of the oldest standing building in Sapporo constructed in 1878. Originally built as a drill hall for Sapporo Agricultural College (now Hokkaido University), but today, it serves as a museum about the history of the building and development of Sapporo. The clock bell still rings every hour to announce the time to the city.

At the end of your tour, visit 'Depachika' gourmet hall on the basement floor of Daimaru department store. Here, you will be able to find various kinds of famous sweets brands that represent Hokkaido sweets. "Nama Chocolate" from ROYCE' uses plenty of Hokkaido fresh cream, and it delightfully melts in your mouth. Marusei Butter Sandwich from Rokkatei is a biscuit snack with raisins, white chocolate and cream. It has been loved by locals for over 40 years. Double Fromage from LeTAO is a best known cheesecake with rich milky taste.

If time permits, visit Hokkaido University Campus, another peaceful oasis of rich greenery located in the middle of the city. Take a pleasant stroll along the picturesque street with lined ginkgo trees.
