Sample Itinerary A: Matsumoto and Azumino (8 hours)


Enjoy strolling along beautifully-preserved streets, lined with white earthen old warehouses, craftsmen's shops, and cafes.
For your lunch, soba (buckwheat noodles) can be recommended.

In the afternoon, Transfer to Azumino by local train. Enjoy hiking or cycling around the pastoral area. You will see many farms of wasabi and seasonal vegetables & fruits. In season, fruit picking can be arranged such as strawberries, blueberries, cherries, apples, grapes.
Sample itinerary B: Nagano city and Obuse (8 hours)

Visit Zenkoji Temple in Nagano city. The temple, founded about 1400 years ago, had been conserved by famous samurai lords such as Minamoto Yoritomo, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was said that people can go to heaven if they visit Zenkoji Temple. Even now, 6million people visit there in a year. Along the streets running to the main gate of temple, monesteries and various souvenir, craftworks, and soybean paste shops can be seen.

Then, take a 30-minute local train ride to Obuse. You will be impressed by beautiful rural scenery of mountains, farming villages.
Obuse is a small charming town where the famous ukiyoe painter Katsushika Hokusai spent his last years. Visit Hokusai-kan, a museum with the collection of his original paintings.

Obuse is also famous for the prominent production area of chestnuts. Enjoy walking along Kuri-no-komichi "chestnuts path", paved with chestnuts wooden chips, lined with old warehouses.
For your lunch, steamed rice with chestnuts can be recommended. Also, try Kuri-kanoko (Japanese sweets with chestnuts) for afternoon snack.
