1,257th Omizutori Festival in Nara

Omizutori is held at Nigatsudo hall of Todaiji Temple in Nara, every year in the middle of March since 752.  Monks with big torches in their hands pray for good harvest, health, and peace, and drop the sparks onto the visitors.  The excitement of this fire festival will let you forget the coldness of Nara's winter night.  Be exposed to the sparks, and bring back good fortune for this year!

Escape the Winter Cold to Izu

 

Izu is known as a great winter getaway destination with hot springs, which is located within 2.5 hours from Tokyo.  Thanks to the warm climate, spring arrives earlier than Tokyo.  Japanese plum trees will be in full bloom in February,and you can enjoy walking in a park with sweet floral scents.  In Shuzenji, the plum-blossom festival is held.  Souvenir and food stalls will be open during the festival. 

Also, strawberry picking can be enjoyed during this season.  There are some berry farms near Shuzenji with warm greenhouses.  At some farms, you can eat as much strawberries as you want while picking them.   You will be amazed at how sweet Japanese strawberries are.  about Izu

 

 

Soba Class in Kagurazaka

Experience Soba (buckwheat noodle) making in Kagurazaka, one of the oldest Geisha towns in Tokyo.  A passionate chef will teach you how to make Soba in the restaurant's kitchen.  Although soba is a very simple cuisine, you will

 津軽そば 

learn how important it is to use selected ingredients, and to prepare each step carefully.  At the end of class, taste your own soba, and special dishes created by the master, along with a glass of sake if you like.

Tsurugata, a Picturesque Ryokan in Kurashiki

Kurashiki, a town with old buildings and a willow-lined canal, is located within an hour by bullet train from Hiroshima.  The historical buildings, made of white walls and black tiles in typical Kurashiki architecture, are renovated into art galleries, shops, cafes, and ryokans.
