On December 2, Michi Travel Japan’s dinner plan with geisha performance in Kagurazaka was featured in Reuters’ article, and was wired across the world. International Herald Tribune, Washington post, are just a few examples. The article talks about how the traditional Japanese entertainment business is undergoing a transitional period. At its peak, the number of geishas across Japan was about 80,000, but now there are only 1000. In order to survive, geisha’s exclusive world, which was only for powerful businessmen and politicians, is opening up to tourists. See our website for the whole article. For details on geisha dinner plan and special traditional culture arrangements in Kagurazaka, please see our Kagurazaka page. |

Refresh yourself at Meigetsuso,
a Cozy Ryokan in Kaminoyama Onsen
| Less than 3 hours from Tokyo, Meigetsuso is located in Yamagata Prefecture overlooking grand Zao Mountains usually covered with snow during winter. Meigetsuso is a luxury ryokan with a blend of traditional Japanese ryokan’s hospitality and western decors. There are only 20 rooms, each separated like a cottage with privacy. All rooms have a small dining room with a table and chairs to enjoy breakfast without having to put away the futons (Japanese beddings). For breakfast, you can choose between a Japanese and western style. Some rooms have a porch, and some rooms have outdoor private onsen baths attached to the room with a view of Zao Mountains. Within the ryokan, there are many places you can spend your time at. Enjoy reading in the library, have a fun conversation with other guests at the lounge, select a wine or sake for dinner at the cellar, and heal with reflexology. When you check out, your mind and body will feel all refreshed. Those who are adventurous, take a taxi and two ski lift rides to Zao Mountains. You can encounter a spectacular scenery of silver frost on trees. For more details, seeMeigetsuso. |
